Check of a state and replacement of the sensor of position of the camshaft (SMR)

 Implementation of the procedure described below can lead to entering in memory of OBD of malfunction which will be highlighted by a control lamp "Check the engine". Upon completion of check and the corresponding recovery repair do not forget to clear memory of system (see the Section System of Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) - the principle of functioning and codes of malfunctions).

Models 1993 and 1994 of of the issue.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The SMR sensor serves for determination of frequency of rotation of the engine and the current position of pistons in its cylinders. The removed information arrives on the onboard processor which on the basis of its analysis carries out the corresponding adjustments of duration of injection and installations of a corner of an advancing of ignition. The SMR sensor consists of a rotor plate and the contour forming a wave signal. The rotor plate is broken by grooves into 360 divisions (with a step in 1 °). The form and an arrangement of grooves allow to trace the frequency of rotation of the engine and the current position of its camshaft. The set of light and photo diodes is built in a form-building contour. When passing teeths of a rotor in a gap between the light and photo diode there is a consecutive interruption of a light beam which then will be transformed to the wavy amplitude signal given on RSM. The RSM sensor is built in the ignition distributor.

2. Disunite the contact socket in a plait of the electrical wiring going to the distributor. Include ignition. the voltmeter probe the plug of a black-and-white wire of the socket. In the absence of tension check a condition of an electrical wiring on the site of a chain between the ECCS relay and the battery. (do not forget about safety locks). Check also a condition actually of the relay and the electrical wiring going from it to the distributor socket (see schemes of electric connections at the end of the Head Onboard electric equipment). By means of an ohmmeter check serviceability of grounding of the plug of a black wire.
3. Switch off ignition and remove the distributor from the engine (see the Head Elektrooborudovaniye of the engine). Restore initial connection of an electrical wiring. Connect the positive probe of the voltmeter to the plug of a green-black wire from a reverse side of the socket. Ground the negative probe on weight. Include ignition and begin to turn slowly a distributor shaft, monitoring indications of the measuring instrument. The following picture has to take place: 6 jumps with an amplitude of 5.0 V on one turn of a shaft against the background of a zero basic signal. This check confirms serviceability of registration of a signal 120 °.
4. At the switched-off ignition connect the voltmeter to the plug of a greenish-yellow wire. Include ignition and begin to rotate a distributor shaft slowly. This time regular 5-voltny power surges with a frequency of 360 pieces on one turn of a shaft have to take place. This procedure allows to make sure of serviceability of development of a signal 1 °.
5. At negative results of the checks described above assembly of the distributor of ignition is subject to replacement (see the Head Elektrooborudovaniye of the engine), - the SMR sensor is not subject to service in an individual order.

Models since 1995 of the issue.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The SMR sensor is located in a GRM drive cover in a forward part of the power unit. The sensor consists of a permanent magnet, the core and a wire winding and serves for definition of grooves in a camshaft asterisk. When passing teeths of an asterisk near the sensor there is a change of the magnetic field surrounding it which, in turn, will be transformed to the alarm tension given on RSM. On the basis of the analysis of information arriving from the sensor the module of management defines about position of pistons in the cylinders (VMT).

2. Disconnect an electrical wiring from the sensor. By means of an ohmmeter measure resistance between two plugs of the contact socket of the sensor. At a temperature of 20 °C resistance of 1440 ÷ 1760 Ohms (the sensor of production of the Hitachi company) of/2090 ÷ 2550 Ohms (the sensor of production of the Mitsubishi company) has to take place the faulty sensor is subject to replacement.
3. At positive result of the check made above address schemes of electric connections (see the Head Onboard electric equipment) and check the electrical wiring going from RSM for existence of signs of breaks. Make sure of lack of signs of violation of quality of grounding of a black wire of a plait (use an ohmmeter). If the sensor and an electrical wiring as it should be, drive away the car on car repair shop for performing diagnostics of a condition of RSM and performance of the corresponding recovery repair.
