CHECK

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Failure of the water pump is capable to cause the most serious consequences, up to full jamming of the engine as a result of an overheat.
2. There are two ways of check of serviceability of functioning of the water pump without its removal from the engine. The defective pump is subject to replacement. The first - the simplest: at the engine working, warmed up up to the normal working temperature squeeze the top hose of a radiator. At regularly functioning water pump in a hose liquid pulsations have to differ distinctly.

Try not to touch to blades a krylchatok of fans of the cooling system!

3. The water pump is equipped with a control/air vent. In case of failure of an epiploon from an opening cooling liquid begins to exude. On SOHC engines uncover the GRM drive. Prepare a pocket small lamp and a small pocket mirror, - the opening is located from below on a pump housing. Existence around an opening of deposits of brownish color testifies to malfunction of an epiploon, - easy decolouration of a surface (a ring of light gray color) should not cause concerns. On DOHC engines the control opening removes cooling liquid outside between a GRM drive cover the engine block.

4. At failure of bearings of a shaft of the pump in operating time of the engine in its forward part there can be a howling sound which should not be confused to the whistle published by a driving belt when easing effort of its tension. On SOHC engines wear of the bearing can be revealed on existence of a side play when rocking a pulley of the pump (do not forget to switch off before the engine and to throw off a belt from a pulley). On DOHC engines it is necessary to weaken the main gas-distributing chain and to remove a special cover of access to the pump, - the opening of access is provided in a forward cover of the GRM drive. Wear of the bearing is determined by existence of a side play of a shaft when rocking a driving asterisk of the pump
5. Even in the absence of external signs of wear the final conclusion about a condition of the water pump can be made only after its removal and more detailed studying, - often blades from a reverse side of a rotor strongly collapse as a result of corrosion that brings to essential to decline in production of the pump.

REPLACEMENT

Start implementation of the procedure only after full cooling of the engine! See also preventions at the beginning of the Section Antifreeze - general information.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!

2. Empty the cooling system (see the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance). If replacement of cooling liquid was made recently, keep for further use (see the prevention in the Section Antifreeze - general information).
3. Take off driving belts (see the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).

4. On SOHC engines block a pulley of the water pump from a provorachivaniye by means of a tape key and give four fixing bolts. Remove a pulley and covers of a gas-distributing belt.

5. On DOHC engines remove an arm of an intermediate roller of a driving belt and assembly of the right support of a suspension bracket of the power unit with the arms. Also uncover a natyazhitel of the main gas-distributing chain a forward cover of the GRM drive. Wring out inside the piston of a natyazhitel of a chain and pass a pin of suitable diameter throughout a blocking opening of a natyazhitel. Turn a bent shaft on 20 ° counterclockwise for the purpose of weakening of a chain on asterisks of the water pump.
6. Turn out fixing bolts and remove the pump from the engine. Check blades of a krylchatka from a reverse side of a rotor for existence of signs of corrosion and destruction.

7. Clean a carving of fixing bolts and bolted openings, having completely removed traces of corrosion and old sealant and having restored the damaged rounds.
8. Make sure of identity of tiporazmerny characteristics of new and old pumps.
9. Scratch out the remains of old sealant from the interfaced surface of the block of the engine.
10. Carefully wipe the interfaced surfaces of the new pump with the rags moistened in acetone.
11. On SOHC engines apply a thin film of RTV sealant on the interfaced surface of the new pump, then accurately press new sealing laying. On DOHC engines install a new sealing ring on the pump, then slightly grease it with dense lubricant for the purpose of simplification of landing of assembly in the engine block.
12. Accurately put the pump on the regular place, screw fixing bolts and tighten them by hand.

Before a vvorachivaniye of bolts grease their carving part with RTV sealant. Track that all provided directing pins were on the places.

13. In stages (on 1/4 turns for approach) tighten fixture with the required effort. Remember that excessively strong obtyagivaniye of bolts can lead to damage of the pump. On DOHC engines turn a bent shaft on 20 ° clockwise for the purpose of an obtyagivaniye of the main chain on a pump asterisk, take a lock pin from a natyazhitel and establish to the place of a cover of access to a natyazhitel and to the pump.

Covers should be put on RTV sealant.

14. Establish all other components which were removed for the purpose of ensuring access.
15. Fill the cooling system and remove from it air traffic jams (see the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance). Start the engine and check it for existence of signs of leak of cooling liquid.

On DOHC engines at first, before full removal of air from the camera of high pressure, the increased noise level, published by a gas-distributing chain can take place. For elimination of noise let's the engine some time work with a frequency of 3000 rpm.
