Removal and installation of the engine

It is worth to remember that gasoline is flammable liquid in the highest measure! During the work with components of a power supply system observe all taken measures of fire safety. You do not smoke, do not approach the venue of works with naked flame or the carrying unprotected by the lamp shade. You do not make service of system in the room equipped with the heating devices using natural gas and equipped with a control torch (such as vodogre and dryers for clothes). Do not forget that gasoline is among the cancerogenic substances promoting development of cancer. Try not to allow hits of fuel on open parts of the body, - use protective rubber gloves, at casual unforeseen contact carefully wash out hands warm water with soap. Immediately collect the spilled fuel and do not put the rags impregnated with fuel and lubricants near sources of naked flame. Remember that the power supply system of the models equipped with injection of fuel constantly is under pressure. Before starting a detachment of fuel lines, dump residual pressure in system (for more details see the Head of the Power supply system and release). At service of components of a power supply system put on goggles. Constantly hold near at hand the class B fire extinguisher!

The path of the air conditioning system also constantly is under pressure, and therefore before a rassoyedineniye of refrigerator lines it is necessary to make a system discharge in the conditions of a specialized workshop.

Cars of the considered model are equipped with the SRS system which main component are safety cushions. Before starting performance of any works near an arrangement of sensors of the directed SRS overloads, around a steering column or the dashboard, without fail disconnect system in order to avoid the casual operation of safety cushions fraught with receiving serious injuries.



Before starting implementation of the procedure, attentively get acquainted with material of the present Section. Manufacturers recommend to make removal of the engine from the car assembled with transmission. The partition of the power unit can be made later on a workshop floor.

1. Dump pressure in a power supply system (see the Head of the Power supply system and release).
2. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!

3. Cover wings and an airreflector under a car windshield special protective covers, or just old blankets. Remove a cowl (see the Head Kuzov).
4. Remove assembly of the air cleaner (see the Head of the Power supply system and release).
5. The car also establish to Poddomkratta it on props. Empty the cooling system, merge motive oil and take off belts of the drive of auxiliary units (see the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).

6. Accurately mark and disconnect from the engine all vacuum lines, hoses of cooling systems and decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases, sockets of an electrical wiring, tires of grounding and fuel pipes. It is the best of all to make marking of an electrical wiring, lines and hoses by means of an adhesive tape. It will also be useful to make the scheme of laying of communications, or to execute a series of consecutive pictures.

7. Remove cooling system fans, disconnect radiator hoses and hoses of a heating path (see the Head of the Cooling system, heating).
8. Having uncovered a jellied mouth, dump residual pressure in the fuel tank, then disconnect the fuel pipes going from the fuel highway (see the Head of the Power supply system and release). At once to a zakuporta open ends of tubes and connecting unions.
9. Otboltite also shift the air conditioner compressor aside, without disconnecting from it refrigerator lines.
10. Disconnect from the engine draft of an accelerator, and at the corresponding complete set of the car, also a cable of a tempostat (see the Head of the Power supply system and release).
11. Otboltite the steering pump, shift it aside and tie up, without disconnecting hydraulic lines (see the Head Podvesk and steering). Remove the generator (see the Head Elektrooborudovaniye of the engine).
12. On SOHC engines remove the coil and the distributor of ignition with the wires connected to it by VV (see the Head Elektrooborudovaniye of the engine).

13. Mark and disconnect plaits of the main braid of an electrical wiring from both parties of the engine.

14. Remove the top section of the inlet pipeline (see the Part DOHC Engines or SOHC Engines of the present Chapter), - do not forget to mark previously all subjects to a wire detachment, hoses and tires to grounding.
15. Disconnect a reception pipe of system of production of the fulfilled gases from final collectors of the engine and catalytic converter and remove it from the car (see the Head of the Power supply system and release).
16. Remove power shafts (see the Head Stsepleniye and power shafts). Disconnect from transmission an electrical wiring and drafts of the drive of gear shifting (see the Head the Transmission).
17. Connect lifting slings to lifting eyes of the power unit, turn on the winch, having completely chosen a weak point of slings.

If the power unit is not equipped with lifting eyes, get slings/chain for both heads of cylinders. Hang out the unit, having completely unloaded support of its suspension bracket.

18. Make sure that nothing remained connected to the power unit and does not interfere it with extraction from the car.
19. Prop up transmission a cart jack, for distribution of loading having enclosed wooden whetstone under its head. Turn out bolts of fastening of support to the engine and the bearing cross beam to the chassis (see the Part DOHC Engines or SOHC Engines of the present Chapter).

Take care of reliability of fixing of the unit in the lifted situation.

20. Slowly omit assembly of the power unit on a floor under a motive compartment of the car.
21. Disconnect a lifting rigging from the unit, its peretsepita on a car body, raise the last on sufficient height and take motive assembly from under the car.

At this stage it will be reasonable to get support of the assistant.

22. Separate the engine from transmission (see the Head the Transmission).
23. Install the separated engine on a floor, or remove a flywheel / a driving disk and fix assembly at the assembly stand.



1. Check a condition of support of a suspension bracket of the power unit. Replace defective components.
2. On models with RKPP check a condition of components of coupling (it will be correct to replace all assembly) (see the Head Stsepleniye and power shafts). On models with AT estimate a condition of epiploons and plugs of the converter of rotation. Grease with high-temperature lubricant the directing bearing (models with RKPP) / a converter nose (models with AT).
3. Accurately connect transmission to the engine (see the Head the Transmission).

It is not necessary to use fixing bolts for pulling of transmission to the engine by force at all!

4. Screw bolts of fastening of the engine to transmission and strongly tighten them.
5. Start assembly of the power unit under the car, having lifted it on a jack on due height, then lower the car body which is hung out on the winch.
6. Peretsepite a rigging on the unit and carefully hang out it in a motive compartment.
7. For reliability prop up the engine a jack, then get a cross beam on the regular place. Screw the corresponding fixing bolts (a beam and support) and tighten them with the required effort.

The description of an order of final tightening of fixture of support of a suspension bracket of the power unit is provided in the last Sections of Parts SOHC Engines and DOHC Engines of the present Chapter.

8. Installation of the remained components is made as it should be the return to an order of their dismantle.
9. As necessary add in the engine cooling liquid, engine oil, liquid of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel and so forth (see the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).
10. Start the engine and check it for serviceability of functioning and existence of signs of leaks, then muffle and check levels of working liquids.
